Percyjones, a gelded son of Jesse James Jr owned by Terry and Irene Stennett, is the fastest qualifier to the July 30 Zia Derby (RG2) for New Mexico-bred sophomores.

Prepped by Trey Wood and sent to post as the 3-10 favorite, Percyjones won the last of four 400 yards by one length in 19.791 on a sealed track labeled "wet-fast." Ricky Ramirez rode the gelding, who made his season debut with a neck victory in a 350-yard, $18,000 allowance dash at Remington Park on May 27.

Percyjones was bred by Benny and Donna Smith. The gelding has won five of eight outs and has banked $168,050, and his race record includes a third-place finish, a neck behind winner High Plains Perry, in last year's 400-yard, $1-million Texas Classic Ftuurity (G1) at Lone Star Park.

This year's Zia Derby will offer a stakes-record $176,005 purse. Click here for a complete list of qualifiers.
