RC Racing LLC's A Passion For Flashn posted the fastest qualifying time to this year's $370,820 Zia Futurity (RG1) for New Mexico-bred 2-year-olds at Ruidoso Downs.

Racing in the seventh of 10 400-yard trials on Saturday, A Passion For Flashn defeated non-qualifier Hollywood Crown by 3 1/2 lengths in :19.953. Mauro Salcedo rode the brown son of champion First Moonflash for trainer Martin Orona Sr.

A Passion For Flashn was bred by JMH Racing LLC, and the colt was a $6,500 yearling buy at last year's New Mexico-Bred Sale. His dam, Subtly Sixy, is a winning 8-year-old mare by Streakin Sixes.

A Passion For Flashn was coming off of a fourth-place finish, 1 1/4 lengths behind winner Daddys Blushing, in the 350-yard, $393,000 Mountain Top Futurity (RG3) at Ruidoso Downs on June 17. The colt has won two of five starts and has banked $36,560.

Tempting Star Gazer, the second-fastest qualifier, won the first heat by three-quarters of a length from ninth-fastest qualifier First N Forever. Ridden by Cipriano Vidana for owners Jose R. Espinosa and Jill Giles and trainer Wes Giles, the First Moonflash gelding covered 400 yards in :20.041 while posting his second win in five outs.
