Carolyn Bruce's Cb Come Fly With Me was sent to post as the 8-5 favorite in a full field of 10 state-bred sophomores, and the homebred daughter of Desirio responded with a half-length victory in the $126,000 Blue River Derby (R) at Indiana Grand.
Ridden by Rolando Pina for trainer Erin Thompson, Cb Come Fly With Me covered 400 yards in :19.951. In addition to posting a 92 speed index, the filly banked the $69,300 winner's share of the purse to push her earnings to $224,048 from 11 outs.
CB Come Fly With Me was the Indiana Quarter Horse champion 2-year-old filly last season, after the filly won four of her seven races, including the QHRAI Stallion Service Auction Futurity (R) at Indiana Grand, and banked $148,308.
"We wanted to name this filly 'Come Fly With Me,' but that name was already taken," said Bruce's husband, Mickey. "So we added the 'CB' for Carolyn in front to retain that name."
Sicario crossed the wire second but was disqualified and placed 10th for bumping American Cowgirl 42 and forcing that rival into the gap shortly after the start. Kid Cartel, Hh Kentucky Krome, Chics Dirty Secret, Jess Stolakiss, Zoomin B Cartel, Dnachrystalsfighter, Sixes Royal Opener, American Cowgirl 42, and Sicario completed the official order of finish.
