One of only two New Mexico-bred 2-year-olds to be supplemented to the trials for a $15,000 fee, Flash Moonfire is the fastest qualifier to the June 17, $392,555 Mountain Top Futurity (RG2) at Ruidoso Downs.

Flash Moonfire won the second of 12 350-yard trials by one length in :17.704. Oscar Cordova rode the First Moonflash gelding for owner David Valdez of Odessa, Texas, and trainer Juan Esquivel.

Flash Moonfire was bred by Mike Abraham, and he is the first starter produced by the stakes-winning 7-year-old Walk Thru Fire mare Required Fire. A $27,000 buy at last year's Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale, he has won two of three starts and has earned $33,149, and he was a finalist in the April 8, 300-yard New Mexican Spring Futurity (RG2) at Sunland Park.

Second-fastest qualifier Bigg Daddy broke his maiden with a clear 2 3/4-length victory in the 12th heat. The gelded son of Big Daddy Cartel and 2009 champion sophomore filly Alice K White was ridden by Adrian Ramos for owner Two For Two and trainer Wes Giles.

Bigg Daddy was bred by Mac and Janis Murray's MJ Farms of Veguita, New Mexico. The gelding was acquired for $25,000 at last year's Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale, and he is a half brother to champion Astica.

Moneys A Maker, the other $15,000 supplement to the trials, finished second, 1 3/4 lengths behind fourth-fastest qualifier Tempting Star Gazer, in the 11th trial and failed to make the Mountain Top final.
