Mega Hero Tops Firecracker Derby Trials

The Jet Black Patriot gelding extends his win streak to four on Friday.

Double H Racing Investment's Mega Hero extended his win streak to four with a three-quarter length victory in the first of three Firecracker Derby trials at Delta Downs on Friday.

Ridden by Manuel Gutierrez for trainer Jose Sanchez, Mega Hero went 400 yards in :19.608 while scoring the fastest qualifying time to the June 30, $172,580 final. The Jet Black Patriot gelding, who was bred in Texas by Mercy Hinklins Horse Farm LLC, was winning for the fifth time in eight races and pushing his earnings to $46,095, of which $37,358 has been pocketed this season.

Mega Hero was coming off of a three-quarter length win in the 350-yard, $62,715 Old South Derby at Delta Downs on May 12.
