Santiago Mendez rode Jess Bein The Hero to the 4-year-old stallion's first graded stakes win in Saturday's $50,000 Miss Polly Classic (G3) at Delta Downs.

Saddled by Miguel Rodriguez for owner Juan F. Martinez-Labastida, Jess Bein The Hero covered 400 yards in :19.386, and his margin of victory was a neck from even-money favorite Politically Corrupt. He posted a 103 speed index, and the $30,000 winner's share of the purse bumped his earnings to $81,553.

Jess Bein The Hero was bred in Texas by Curtis Crenwelge. His dam, the winning Mr Jess Perry mare Jess Braggin, ran second in the 2006 Frances Carr Distaff Stakes (G3) at Manor Downs near Austin, Texas, and is a half sister to two stakes winners, including graded stakes winner First Blazin Love. His second dam, the First Down Dash mare Love At First Glance, is a half sister to Grade 1 winner Natovas Princess.

Jess Bein The Hero has won five of seven outs, including three of four this season. His three career stakes wins include the Streakin La Jolla Stakes and Swift Stakes during the 2017 Louisiana Downs winter meet.

Brave Heart Won, Cobalt Creek, Tlc Dale, Senator Tamale, Double Down, and String Bet completed the order of finish.
