Mega Hero Extends Win Streak in Firecracker Derby

The Jet Black Patriot gelding wins his fifth consecutive race on Friday.

Mega Hero, a brown son of Jet Black Patriot owned by Double H Racing Investment LLC, extended his winning streak to five with a half-length victory in Friday's $172,580 Firecracker Derby at Delta Downs.

Prepped by Jose Sanchez and sent to post as the 4-5 favorite in the field of 10, Mega Hero went 400 yards in :19.696 and earned a 95 speed index. The gelding banked $86,290 while posting his second career stakes win.

Mega Hero was bred in Texas by Mercy Hinklins Horse Farm LLC. An $11,500 buy at the 2015 Texas Quarter Horse Association Yearling Sale in San Antonio, the gelding has won six of nine starts, including the May 12 Old South Derby at Delta, and he has earned $132,385, of which $123,648 has been pocketed this season.

Mega Hero returned a $3.60 win mutuel and teamed with Graceful Eagle, the 5-2 second choice, for a $2 exacta payofff of $12.40. One Sweet Picky, the 8-1 third choice, completed a $29.50 ($1) trifecta.

Jess A Tr, Katharsis, Moral Compass, Ardor, Tres Seis Sign, Td Famous Jes, and Carmel Diamond completed the order of finish.
