Bill Hoburg's Bh Lisas Boy kept his perfect record this season intact with a three-quarter length victory in Sunday's Grade 3, $25,000 Kaweah Bar Handicap at Los Alamitos.
Prepped by John Cooper, Bh Lisas Boy went 350 yards in :17.548 under jockey Cesar DeAlba. The homebred 5-year-old Mighty Invictus gelding was making his first start since February 19, when he won the 400-yard Los Alamitos Winter Championship (G1) to earn a berth in this year's Champion of Champions (G1).
“He reminds me of Moonist a lot,” said Cooper, who trained the champion Moonist to 24 wins and $878,468 in earnings. “(BH Lisas Boy) is nice to be around, and I think he’s easy to train. I’m sure Bill would say the same thing. He’s really coming into himself right now.
"I really wasn’t worried about him going 350 yards," Cooper added. "They would say that Moonist was a 400 yard horse, but Moonist won the Kaweah Bar in :17.33 at 350 yards. The good ones don’t just run a certain distance. It depends on when you ask them to run."
An Idaho-bred, Bh Lisas Boy has won 13 of 23 races, including all three of his outs this season, and the $13,750 winner's share of the Kaweah Bar purse increased the gelding's earnings to $334,006.
El Remalcable finished second and was followed by He Looks Hot, Mr Pyc To You, and Winners Cool Chick.
