Sent to post as the 6-5 favorite in a field of six New Mexico-breds, Seis Menudos responded with a wire-to-wire, 1 1/2-length victory in Friday's $40,000 Jimmy Drake Stakes (RG3).
Seis Menudos covered his 400-yard trip in :19.326 and posted a 101 speed index while aided by a reported 12-mph tail wind. J. Martin Bourdieu rode the 6-year-old Southern Corona gelding for owner Eloy Humberto Pena and trainer Michael Megariz III.
Seis Menudos was making his first official start since March 4, when he earned a head victory in the 350-yard, $85,000 Mesilla Valley Speed Handicap (RG2) for New Mexico-breds at Sunland Park. The gelding was bred by McCarty/Wood/SW Paving and Grading Inc., and he has won 10 of 20 starts. The $24,000 winner's share of the Jimmy Drake purse pushed his bankroll to $184,811, of which $82,370 has been pocketed this season.
Major Bites, Play Misty Foreme, Carson City Girl, Jess Rueben James, and Major Moonflash completed the order of finish.
