Dead Heat in Black Gold 440 Futurity Championship

Cloud Ridge, Captain Force reach the wire together at Will Rogers Downs.

Cloud Ridge and Captain Force finished in a dead heat for first in Saturday's Black Gold 440 Futurity Championship at Will Rogers Downs.

Randy J. Davis' Cloud Ridge and Pedro Andazola's Captain Force arrived at the wire simultaneously to share the win in Saturday's $282,552 Black Gold 440 Futurity Championship (RG3) at Will Rogers Downs.

Cloud Ridge and Captain Force both tripped the electronic timer in :21.956, and their winning margin was three-quarters of a length from third-place Hot Dam Bam A Lam. Cloud Ridge was sent to post at 4-5 and was ridden by Berkley Packer for trainer Stacey Capps, while Captain Force, an 18-1 longshot, was ridden by Edwuin Lujan for trainer Hipolito Michel-Valverde.

A homebred bay son of champion Carters Cartel, Cloud Ridge was bred in Oklahoma. The gelding has won five of seven races, including the June 3 Easy Jet Stakes (RG3) at Remington Park, and he has earned $163,529.

Captain Force was bred in Kentucky by Gentry Farms, and the Captain Courage colt was purchased by Andazola ffor $10,000 at last year's Heritage Place Yearling Sale. Raced in Colorado and Oklahoma, Captain Force has won two of five outs and has banked $85,460.

Fastest qualifier DG Tempter finished fourth and was followed by One Sweet Policy, Luke Acey, Fast N Furious 123, Can You Pyc Me and Ruler Of The Realm. A Prize Wagon was scratched.
