A quick break from post 2 helped Thermonuclear Energy roll to a clear 1 1/2-length win in Saturday's $50,000 Las Damas Handicap (G3) for fillies and mares at Los Alamitos.

Prepped by Chris O'Dell for the Parsons Family Limited Partnership, Thermonuclear Energy went 400 yards in :19.671 while recording a 94 speed index. Eduardo Nicasio rode the homebred 4-year-old daughter of Walk Thru Fire.

Thermonuclear Energy has won seven of 20 starts, and the $27,500 winner's share of the Las Damas purse bumped her bankroll to $259,007. The mare was facing distaffers again and cutting back in distance off of her sixth-place finish in the October 15, 400-yard Robert L. Boniface Los Alamitos Invitational Championship (G1).

"I was watching her, and she stood nicely," O'Dell said of Thermonuclear Energy's Las Damas performance. "She was quiet tonight. That's when she runs her good races.

"She's always been a nice mare, and with mares it's kind of hit and miss," he added. "She put it all together (tonight). She impressed me. There were some nice mares in there."

Thermonuclear Energy's two career stakes wins include the 2015 Los Alamitos Juvenile Invitational Stakes. O'Dell said that the mare would be pointed to the Charger Bar Handicap (G1) in January.

"We took two embryos out of her," the trainer added. "We'll probably run her in the Charger Bar and breed her a couple of times again. If she stays sound I'd like to run her another year. It's totally up to the Parsons."

Strawfinders Jessie ran second and was followed by Jess Mas, 3-2 favorite Time For Jess, Brimmin Corona, Maggie Durant, Apollitical Dasher, Elicity, You Can Fly, and Jess A Lil Fishy.
