Lotta Blues Man Tops Southern California Derby Qualifiers

The homebred gelding wins the last of five trials on Friday.

Lucky Seven Ranch's Lotta Blues Man is the fastest qualifier to the December 15, $175,300 Southern California Derby (G2) at Los Alamitos.

Ridden by Cesar DeAlba for trainer Mike Casselman, Lotta Blues Man won the last of five 400-yard trials by 1 3/4 lengths in :19.793. The homebred Favorite Cartel gelding was winning for the eighth time in 14 starts and increasing his earnings to $909,985.

Second-fastest qualifier Cartel Sixes won the fourth heat by a half of a length in :19.919. Jesus Ayala rode the Corona Cartel gelding for owner P and J Racing and trainer Jaime Gomez.
