Making just his second start, Ruben Garcia Montemayor's Three Bar Cartel sprinted to a head victory in Saturday's Grade 2 Dash For Cash Futurity at Lone Star Park.

Three Bar Cartel went 400 yards in :19.821 and earned a 93 speed index under jockey Damian Martinez. Josue Ponce prepped the gray son of Capo de Capi, who earned the $141,480 winner's share of the $353,700 purse.

"We’ve had this horse about two months, and we’ve had trouble with him going straight," said Ponce.  "I think he’s getting better every time.

"Today he had a little trouble, but we knew he was fast enough to get out of there," the trainer added. "We’ll see how he pulls up tomorrow and go from there.  He sleeps a lot but once he goes out he’s very professional, nothing but business.”

Montemayor and Martinez teamed to win last year's Dash For Cash Futurity with Eye N Capo. Three Bar Cartel was bred in Oklahoma by Dr. Curtis Smith, and he was purchased by Montemayor for $18,000 at last year's Heritage Place Yearling Sale in Oklahoma City.

The fourth-fastest qualifier, Three Bar Cartel made his debut with a head victory in the first of 11 trials on September 15. The gelding has won both of his outs and has banked $144,180.

Apollitical To Know ran second and was followed by 9-10 favorite Cloud Ridge, One Sweet Policy, Jess Adalida, Capital Ice, Thecartelofmiracle, FDD Lajolla, and SC Tornado. Fastest qualifier JA Am I Blue was scratched.
