Haynes Blue Boy earned his first stakes win in Friday's Covered Bridges Stakes at Prairie Meadows.

Haynes Blue Boy, the 4-5 favorite in a field of eight distance specialists, led at every call en route to a 2 3/4-length win in Friday's 870-yard, $25,000 Covered Bridges Stakes (G3) at Prairie Meadows.

Ridden by Stormy Smith, Haynes Blue Boy stopped the timer in :45.313 and recorded a 101 speed index. Charlton Hunt prepped the homebred 3-year-old son of champion Jess Louisiana Blue for owner Nancy S. McCoy of Wichita, Kansas.

Haynes Blue Boy returned a $3.60 win mutuel and paired with runner-up and 6-1 co-second choice Hiclass Man for a $2 exacta payoff of $21. The Kansas-bred brown gelding has won three of 12 outs, including three of six this season, and the $14,250 winner's share of the purse from his first stakes victory boosted his bankroll to $37,192.

Little Jo Eagle finished third and was followed by Blue Eyed Andy, Im The Key, Wicked Valentine, No Regrets Here, and Country Mans Jazz.
