Salvador Velez's Alluringeyeopener, the ninth-fastest qualifier, broke his maiden with a neck victory in Saturday's $173,700 Gillespie County Fair Futurity at Retama Park.
Ridden by Nestor Duran and racing against a reported 7-mph head wind, Alluringeyeopener went 350 yards in :17.743. Eusevio Huitron trained the sorrel son of the First Down Dash stallion Specially Alluring, who was winning for the first time in five starts.
Alluringeyeopener was bred in Texas by Rance Herring, and he was a $5,000 buy at last year's TQHA Yearling Sale in San Antonio. The $60,795 winner's share of the purse pused the colt's earnings to $62,269.
Alluringeyeopener was sent to post at odds of 14-1 and returned a $30.20 win mutuel. Audi Murphy, the fastest qualifier and 5-2 favorite, finished second to complete a $2 exata payoff of $249.60.
Lions Express ran third and was followed by Potus B, Hesa Royal Corona, Apollitical Scared, Gianni Bailes, Nsm Cherokee Warrior, and Tacky Lil Groundhog. Rstone Wagon was scratched.
