Heza Bell Perry, a 6-year-old son of Heza Fast Dash owned and trained by Javier Noel Contreras, sprinted to a half-length victory in Saturday's $40,000 Mid-City Stakes (RG2) for Louisiana-breds at Fair Grounds Racecourse.

Ridden by Alfonso Lujan and racing against a reported 15-mph head wind, Heza Bell Perry went 400 yards in :19.948. The $24,000 winner's share of the purse from his third career stakes victory increased the gelding's earnings to $195,106.

Heza Bell Perry was bred by Mars Racing. Campaigned exclusively in Louisiana and Texas, he has won 12 of 29 starts, and his stakes resume includes victories in the May 12, 550-yard Delta 550 Stakes (R) at Delta Downs, and the March 31, 550-yard Harris County Stakes at Sam Houston Race Park.

Heza Bell Perry ran fourth, 1 3/4 lengths behind winner First Prize Denim, in last year's Mid-City Stakes (RG3).

Jes A Fast Dasher finished second and was followed by 2-5 favorite Heza Louisiana Dash, Zooboo, Ldn Jessasaltydog, and Bankin On Bux.
