Kolleen Ledgerwood’s Renewed, a colt by Walk Thru Fire trained by Roberto Dominguez, is the fastest qualifier to the October 6, $184,000 PCQHRA Breeders’ Derby (G3) at Los Alamitos.

Ridden by Eduardo Nicasio, Renewed won the last of five 400-yard trials on Saturday by one length in :19.780. The California-bred colt has won four of 11 starts and has earned $84,045 while racing exclusively at Los Alamitos.

"We felt we had the horse razor sharp," said Dominguez. "He had some trouble in the Golden State Derby final in his last start. It was an oversight on my part, but this time I didn't take anything for granted.

"I think we brought him into this race as sharp as possible, and hopefully he comes back and has a similar race in the final," the trainer added.

Renewed was bred by Ed Allred and was a $78,000 yearling purchase at the 2015 Los Alamitos Equine Sale.
