Champion Imperial Eagle is Fastest Hobbs America Derby Qualifier

The gelding won the third of four 440-yard trials on Sunday.

Four 440-yard Hobbs America Derby trials were contested at Zia Park on Sunday.

Imperial Eagle, last year's champion 2-year-old, on Sunday won the third of four Hobbs America Derby (G3) trials at Zia Park, and the One Famous Eagle gelding is the fastest qualifier to the October 8, $200,000-est. final.

Prepped by Tony Sedillo for the Estate of Charles Robinson and Christina Robinson, Imperial Eagle defeated eighth-fastest qualifier JM Mister Destiny by 1 3/4 lengths in :21.844 for 440 yards. Esgar Ramirez rode the gelding, who was winning for the ninth time in 14 outs.

Imperial Eagle was bred in California by Fredda Draper. The gelding is out of Jenuine Joy, a homebred multiple graded stakes winning daughter of Genuine Strawfly.

Imperial Eagle has earned $1,789,521, and his four stakes victories include last year's All American Futurity (G1) at Ruidoso Downs and Southwest Juvenile Championship (G1) at Zia Park.
