Jess A Hilbily Bone, a homebred 7-year-old son of Rock Solid Jess owned by Rockin J Running Horses of Gatesville, Texas, rallied to win Thursday's 870-yard, $50,165 Pauls Valley Stakes (G3) at Remington Park.

Ridden by Benito Baca for trainer Tammy Johnson, Jess A Hilbily Bone defeated Rock A Billy, his full brother, by a half of a length in :45.607. The $29,838 winner's share of the purse increased the Texas-bred gelding's earnings to $171,029 from 39 outs.

"We raised them, bred them, the whole deal," said Johnson of Jess A Hilbily Bone and Rock A Billy. "It's kind of special, both of them running together."

"We stayed close enough, (but) I was a little nervous coming down the stretch because of (Rock A Billy)," Baca said. "It looked like I was going to have a hard time catching him, but he's got a huge kick to him and he ran him down. He's a great horse to get to ride."

Jess A Hilbily Bone has won 10 races, and his four stakes victories include last year's Grade 2, 870-yard Remington Park Distance Championship.

Jessa Little Rusty finished third, three-quarters of a length behind Jess A Hilbily Bone. Big Spurs, Blazen Panther, Trubador Dan, Admiral Zoomwalt, and Dashin JJ completed the order of finish.
