Alfredo Garza's Slyng Schott, a brown son of Ivory James trained by Josue Ponce, is the fastest qualifier to the April 28, $440,600 Sam Houston Futurity (G3) at Sam Houston Race Park.

Racing in the eighth of 13 330-yard trials on Friday, Slyng Schott defeated second-fastest qualifier Moment Of Fury by a neck in :16.914. Victor Urieta Jr. rode the colt, who was making his career debut.

Slyng Schott was bred in Oklahoma by Bobby D. Cox. A $51,000 purchase at last year's Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale, the colt is out of A Shot Of Glory, an unraced 14-year-old daughter of Strawfly Special, and he is a half brother to Grade 2 winner Capo de Capi.

"We knew from the beginning he was a special colt," said Abelardo Flores Jr., who saddled Slyng Schott. "Even on the walker, he moved better than any of our 2-year-oles. He was training well, and we are not surprised that he ran this well tonight."

Moment Of Fury is a sorrel son of Furyofthewind trained by Alberto Solis for owner Rogelio Marquez Jr. The gelding was bred in Texas by Sarah Huskey.
