Jose F. Hernandez's FM Im A Zatanaz Too, the 2-1 favorite in the field of nine 2-year-olds, earned his first stakes victory in Saturday's 330-yard, $440,600 Sam Houston Futurity (G2) at Sam Houston Race Park.

Ridden by Manuel Gutierrez, FM Im A Zatanaz Too defeated 7-2 second choice Patriotic Games by a neck in :16.823. The gelded son of champion Tempting Dash earned $176,240 while scoring his second win in as many outs.

FM Im A Zatanaz Too was bred in Utah by McColee Land and Livestock LLC, and he gave his owner his first-ever stakes win.

“I had bought a few horses in the past, but last year my partners and I purchased 11 yearlings last year at sales in New Mexico, Texas and Louisiana,” said Hernandez, a resident of Georgetown, Texas. “FM Im A Zatanaz Too was a $35,000 purchase at the Ruidoso Select Sale.

"We knew he was a nice horse, but winning this Futurity is amazing," Hernandez added.

FM Im A Zatanaz Too is out of Dashingfordestiny, a gradd stakes-winning 11-year-old daughter of champions Mr Jess Perry and Dashing Phoebe. The gelding is a full brother to Tempting Destiny, the winner of the 2015 West Texas Derby (G3) at Sunland Park.

Hernandez indicated that FM Im A Zatanaz Too would be pointed to the Grade 1 futurities at Ruidoso Downs this summer.

Cadillac Cash ran third and was followed by Hesgonnabesomebody, Moment Of Fury, fastest qualifier Slyng Schott, Tempting Bye Dash, Jess Master Angel, and Elite Five. Dominyun Tee Off was scratched.
