Making his first start over the track this season, Double A Ranch Inc's Paint My Pilot won Saturday's $50,000 Mr Jet Moore Stakes (G2) at Ruidoso Downs.

Paint My Pilot covered 400 yards in :19.400 while aided by a reported 12-mph tail wind, and his winning margin was a head from 8-5 favorite Bodacious Eagle, who was clocked in :19.412. Yordanis Amaro rode the 4-year-old son of Pyc Paint Your Wagon for trainer Jorge Gonzalez.

Paint My Pilot was making his first start since April 21, when the stallion finished third, a neck behind winner Valiant Rogue, in the 300-yard, $50,000 Bob Moore Memorial Stakes (G2) at Remington Park.

Gonzalez said that Paint My Pilot would be pointed to the Grade 1, 440-yard All American Gold Cup on Labor Day weekend.

"He needed this race," said Gonzalez. "We'll see how he pulls up, but this race should set him up for the Gold Cup. The 440-yard (distance) is no problem."

Paint My Pilot was bred in Louisiana by Grant Farms LLC. The stallion has won six of 15 starts, including two of five at Ruidoso Downs, and his two stakes victories include last year's 440-yard, $213,000 Dash For Cash Derby (G3) at Lone Star Park. The $30,000 winner's share of the Mr Jet Moore purse pushed Paint My Pilot's bankroll to $367,969.

Firing Tools finished third, 1 1/2 lengths from Paint My Pilot. Apolltical Chad, Apollitical OK, High Plains Perry, Mr Apollitical Dash, and Once Over completed the order of finish.
