Pritty, a chestnut daughter of Corona Cartel owned by Miguel A. Lechuga, recorded the fastest qualifying time to the August 25 QHRAI Stallion Service Auction Futurity (R), as Indiana Grand presented a nine-race all-Quarter Horse program on Saturday.

One of three finalists qualified by trainer Ricardo Martinez, Pritty won the last of four trials by 2 1/2 lengths under jockey Yordanis Amaro. The filly covered 350 yards in :17.568 while earning her third win in four starts.

Martinez also prepped second-fastest qualifier Nacho Binez, a homebred Habits Secret gelding who he also owns, and third-fastest qualifier First Habits, a homebred gelded son of Habits Secret campaigned by Gerardo Corral.

Pritty was bred by Saucer Five Lp. Nacho Binez was making his first start since June 2.

"He won his trial for the Gordon Mobley Futurity, but he didn’t qualify for the final,” said Martinez of Nacho Binez. “There were no races for him, so we had to work him out of the gates last week because it had been so long he lost his date.

"He’s the type of horse you have to work so he won’t get rusty," Martinez added. "We had to take a little rust off of him with his work out of the gate.”

Also on Saturday, Beach Mercedes posted the fastest qualifying time to the August 25, $76,312 QHRAI Stallion Service Auction Derby (R).

Prepped by Randy Smith for owner Sheri Miller, Beach Mercedes won the second of two 400-yard trials by 1 3/4 lengths from third-fastest qualifier Rockys Candy Shop. Sergio Ramirez rode the homebred daughter of Escondido Beach, who covered her trip in :19.782.

Beach Mercedes has won six of 12 starts and has banked $88,616 while racing exclusively at Indiana Grand. In her third start of this season, she scored her first stakes victory in the June 2 Harley Greene Derby (R) for state-bred 3-year-olds.

"She's an easy keeper and is easy going," said Smith of Beach Mercedes. "She pretty much stays here (at Indiana Grand) most of the time. She's exactly the type of filly you want in your barn."

Smith also qualified Rockys Candy Shop for owner Lance Finlins, and eighth-fastest qualifier JJ James for owner Bella Vista Farms.
