Ed Allred’s He Looks Hot underwent colic surgery on Saturday and will be scratched from Sunday's Brad McKinzie Los Alamitos Winter Championship (G1).

“He’s alive and that’s the important thing,” said Scott Willoughby, who trains the homebred 6-year-old Walk Thru Fire gelding. “This is his third colic surgery.”

He Looks Hot made his season debut with a wire-to-wire, 1 1/2-length victory in the second of two Winter Championship trials on January 21, and he was the fastest qualifier to the $157,250 final, which offers a Champion of Champions (G1) berth to its winner.
