Boogies Special Dash Tops West Texas Maturity Qualifiers

The gelding makes his 5-year-old season debut with a win on Friday.

Kenneth Ruthardt's Boogies Special Dash made his 5-year-old season debut by posting the fastest qualifying time to the March 10, $102,425 West Texas Maturity (G3) at Sunland Park.

Ridden by Adrian Ramos for trainer Wes Giles, Boogies Special Dash on Friday won the first of three trials by a neck from champion Imperial Eagle. The gelded son of Walk Thru Fire covered 400 yards in :19.659 while racing against a reported 9-mph head wind.

Boogies Special Dash was bred in California by Jaime Gomez. The gelding has won six of 20 starts and has banked $351,275, and his career resume includes a second-place finish in the 2016 Rainbow Derby (G1) at Ruidoso Downs.

Imperial Eagle posted the fourth-fastest qualifying time.
