Racing in the ninth and final trial at Ruidoso Downs on Sunday, Victor Diaz's Sixes Crystal set the fastest qualifying time to the July 21, $801,564 Rainbow Derby (G1).

Sixes Crystal covered 440 yards on a muddy and sealed track in :21.662 while defeating second-fastest qualifier Flight Force by a half of a length at odds of 19-1. Jose Ortiz rode the Mr Jess Perry filly for trainer Jack McCartney.

Sixes Crystal was bred in Texas by Burnett Ranches. The filly has won two of eight outs and has earned $15,258.

"She is starting to develop," said Diaz of Sixes Crystal, who he purchased for $27,000 at the 2016 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale. "She has always been asking for more ground."

Other promient finalists include Darling Farms' DF AJ Green Leaves, a graded stakes winner during the Remington Park spring meet and the third-fastest qualifier. A $40,000 supplemental entry to the trials, DF AJ Green Leaves is trained by Trey Ellis.

"She got run over in the Heritage Place Derby," said Ellis, referring to DF AJ Green Leaves' second-place finish in the June 2 Heritage Place Derby (G2) at Remington Park. "Being supplemented put more pressure on me. She has only been here three weeks and needed this race."
