Thecartelofmiracle Leads The Way in Retama Park Derby Trials

The Tough And Good gelding is the fastest qualifier to the $150,000-est. final on July 28.

Five 400-yard Retama Park Derby trials were contested on Saturday.

Thecartelofmiracle on Saturday set the fastest qualifying time to the July 28, $150,000-est. Retama Park Derby at Retama Park.

Racing in the third of five trials, Thecartelofmiracle defeated second-fastest qualifier Three Bar Cartel by a half of a length in :19.755 for 400 yards. Jorge Linares rode the gelded son of the Corona Cartel stallion Tough And Good for owner Mauro Luciano Villarreal and trainer Alonso Neri.

Thecartelofmiracle was bred in Texas by Jose L. Estrada. Raced in Texas and Louisiana, the gelding has earned $457,160 from 14 outs, and his six wins include last year's Grade 1, 400-yard Texas Classic Derby at Lone Star Park.
