Parsons Rocket Tops Governor's Cup Futurity Qualifiers

Trainer Chris O'Dell qualifies five to the July 28 final at Los Alamitos.

Parsons Rocket, a sorrel son of the First Down Dash stallion Parsons Rock and one of five finalists from the barn of trainer Chris O'Dell, is the fastest qualifier to the July 28, $380,000 Governor's Cup Futurity (RG2).

Racing in the fourth of six trials on Saturday, Parsons Rocket covered 350 yards in :17.587 while defeating second-fastest qualifier and stablemate Powerful Favorite by a nose. Cody Jensen rode the homebred gelding for the Parsons Family Limited Partnership.

Parsons Rocket has won two of four starts and has banked $7,315. The gelding is out of Terrific Energy, a multiple graded stakes winning daughter of champioin Mr Jess Perry, and he is a half brother to graded stakes winner Thermonuclear Energy.

Powerful Favorite was ridden by Eduardo Nicasio for owner Rosenthal Ranch LLC. The Favorite Cartel gelding has banked $46,885 from four outs, and his resume includes a seventh-place finish in the 350-yard, $1.06-million Ed Burke Million Futurity (G1) on June 24.

O'Dell's other three qualifiers were Favorite Wise Lady, Tac Me Up, and Jess Bein Me.
