EOS A Political Win, Three Bar Cartel Dead Heat for Win in Retama Park Derby

The camera can't separate the two rivals on Saturday.

Retama Park's 10-race program on Saturday included the $139,300 Retama Park Derby.

Elite Oilfield Services' EOS A Political Win and Ruben Garcia Montemayor's Three Bar Cartel reached the wire simultaneously to dead heat for the victory in Saturday's 400-yard, $139,300 Retama Park Derby at Retama Park.

Both EOS A Political Win and Three Bar Cartel stopped the timer in :19.720 while racing against a reported 15-mph head wind. Jose Alvarez rode EOS A Political Win for trainer Rolando Almanza, while Jesse Levario rode Three Bar Cartel for trainer Alonso Neri.

EOS A Political Win was bred in Oklahoma by Ray and Celia Nieto. Raced in Texas and Oklahoma, the Apollitical Jess colt has won six of 14 starts, and his season resume includes a third-place finish, a neck behind winner PYC Fun N Fancy, in the 400-yard, $364,000 Heritage Place Derby (G2) at Remington Park on June 2.

The $39,700 co-winner's share of the Retama Park Derby purse pushed EOS A Political Win's earnings to $240,860.

Three Bar Cartel was bred in Oklahoma by Dr. Curtis Smith. A gray son of Capo de Capi, the gelding has won five of seven starts, including last year's 400-yard, $354,000 Dash For Cash Futurity (G1) at Lone Star Park, and he has banked $197,480.

SR Shambles finished third, a neck behind EOS A Political Win and Three Bar Cartel, and was followed by 9-5 favorite Thecartelofmiracle, Cosmo Lela, Classy Seis, Serendipity Rocks, Hesa Icon, Vella Buena, and Krash Course.
