Myst Fit Upsets Grade 3 Higheasterjet Handicap

The 4-year-old son of Separatist outruns his 12-1 odds at Ruidoso Downs.

Myst Fit earned his second graded stakes victory in Saturday's Grade 3, $50,000 Higheasterjet Handicap at Ruidoso Downs. PHOTO: Gay Harris

Sent to post at odds of 12-1, Myst Fit responded with a half-length victory in Saturday's 350-yard, $50,000 Higheasterjet Handicap (G3) at Ruidoso Downs.

Myst Fit covered 350 yards in :17.488 while racing against a reported 6-mph head wind. Raul Ramirez Jr. rode the 4-year-old California-bred son of Separatist for owners Newman Cattle Co. and Bobby Simmons and trainer Blane Wood.

Tough To Bee, the 17-10 favorite and a 4-year-old Apollitical Jess gelding also trained by Wood for owner Paragon Farms LLC, ran second.

"They both ran awesome," said Wood. "Myst Fit blew away from there, and Tough To Bee can close. They just thrive up here, and this should set them up for the All American Gold Cup (on September 2)."

Myst Fit was coming off of a seventh-place finish, 3 1/4 lengths behind winner and reigning world champion Jessies First Down, in the 440-yard, $250,000 Remington Park Invitational Championship (G1) on June 2. The gelding was bred by Dr. Steve Burns of Menifee, California, and he has won six of 14 starts, including the 2017 Oklahoma Derby (G3) at Remington Park. The $30,000 winner's share of the Higheasterjet Handicap purse pushed his bankroll to $216,331.

Born To B Bad finished third, 1 1/2 lengths behind Myst Fit. Firing Tools, Marseille, Apollitical OK, The Fiscal Cliff, Boogies Special Dash, Mr Apollitical Dash and Apolltical Chad completed the orderr of finish.
