Antonio Alberto rode 8-1 longshot Shakeshakeshakeit to a nose victory in Saturday's $359,715 Louisiana Breeders' Laddie Futurity (RG2) for state-bred colts and geldings at Delta Downs.
Trained by Michael Taylor for owner Show Me Da Money LLC, a 10-member partnership that includes Dr. Tommy Hays, Shakeshakeshakeit covered 330 yards in :16.684 while earning a 97 speed index and his first stakes win. Runner-up Fastcopata, a 21-1 longshot, was clocked in :16.692 and also recorded a 97 speed index.
Shakeshakeshakeit was bred by Copper Spring Ranch LLC and was a $21,000 buy at last year's Louisiana QHBA Yearling Sale. The gelded son of Five Bar Cartel was coming off of a third-place finish in his career debut, one of 15 Laddie trials on April 28.
"The horse was feeling a lot better tonight than the trials," Alberto said. "He was a little under the weather that night, but he still muscled through it and got the sixth-fastest time.
"Over the last three weeks, he kept getting better and I had a really good feeling and had confidence in him," the rider added.
Shakeshakeshakeit is out of Rebas In The House, a 13-year-old winning daughter of champion Tres Seis and a finalist in the 2007 Texas Classic Futurity (G1) at Lone Star Park. The gelding has banked $181,178 from two outs.
"Tony had ultimate confidence in the horse and we did too," said Taylor, who added that Shakeshakeshakeit would be pointed to the Lee Berwick Futurity (RG1) trials in June. "He has a lot of speed, and we knew if he got away he'd be tough. Everybody at the farm worked so hard to bring him from where he was three weeks ago to what he accomplished tonight."
Acoronas Toast finished third, a neck behind Shakeshakeshakeit. Bullyonfire, Zoomin Patriot, Mr Empresario, Mr Range Rover, TDZ Going Nuts, Adored Pilot, and Runaway Roulette completed the order of finish.
