Zoomin Racer Extends Win Streak in Herman Jefferson Stakes
A disqualification helps the 5-year-old gelding get his third consecutive victory
October 5, 2018
Zoomin Racer extended his win streak to three in Saturday' 870-yard, $50,000 Herman Jeffferson Stakes (G3) at Zia Park.
Zoomin Racer actually crossed the wire second, a neck behind Mahoney N Tacklebery, but the 5-year-old son of Jess Zoomin had his number put up when that rival was disqualified and placed seventh for veering out early from his number 2 post position. Jansen Melancon rode Zoomin Racer for owner and trainer Jesus J. Carrete of Albuquerque.
Zoomin Racer stopped the timer in :45.582, and his official winning margin was a clear five lengths from Linda Tee Fire. The gelding was bred by Jerry Windham of College Station, Texas. His current win streak includes a three-quarter length victory in the 870-yard, $40,000 AQHA Albuquerque Distance Challenge (G3) on July 29.
All told, Zoomin Racer has won nine of 21 starts, and the $30,000 winner's share of the purse from his fourth graded stakes win increased his earnings to $192,203.
Fire Thorn was placed third and was followed officially by Regards Miracle, Billy Big Rock, Kingsbury, Mahoney N Tacklebery, and JW Who Dat.
