Eye Am Tuff, a 12-1 longshot and the eighth-fastest qualifier, led at every call and hung on at the wire to win Saturday's $124,000 TQHA Sires' Cup Futurity (RG3) at Retama Park.
Ridden by Ricardo Garza-Cruz and racing against a reported 12-mph head wind, Eye Am Tuff went 350 yards in :18.027, and his margin of victory was a nose from 21-1 longshot Diamond G Bee. Kie Mushinski prepped the homebred son of champion Carters Cartel for owner Sue Fikes.
Eye Am Tuff was bred in Texas. The gray gelding is out of Loves Easter Bunny, a winning homebred daugher of Royal Shake Em.
Raced exclusively in Texas, Eye Am Tuff has won one of six starts and has banked $53,118.
Fastest qualifier Kashman, Baller, Rosearian, JLC First Prize Elva, Coronas On The Coast, 3-1 favorite JM Destiny, Rock Solid Shake, and Cosmos Finest completed the order of finish.
