Jessa Diva is Fastest Qualifier to NM State Fair Derby

The Jesse James Jr filly leads the way into the September 23 final

Also on Sunday, Jessa Diva recorded the fastest qualifying time for the September 23, $150,000-est. New Mexico State Fair Derby (R) for state-bred 3-year-old Quarter Horses.

Ridden by Porfirio Cano for owner and trainer Fred Danley of Anthony, New Mexico, Jessa Diva won the last of three 400-yard trials by 1 1/4 lengths in :19.544. The bay daughter of Jesse James Jr was winning for the third time in 15 starts and first time in 15 months.

Jessa Diva was bred by Mac and Janis Murray’s MJ Farms at Veguita, New Mexico. A $15,000 yearling purchase at the 2016 New Mexico-Bred Sale at Ruidoso Downs, the filly has earned $62,505 while racing exclusively in New Mexico. Her season record includes a second-place finish in the 400-yard, $40,000 New Mexico Breeders’ Stakes (R) at SunRay Park in May.
