HS Paul Walker Leads the Way in Shue Fly Trials

The gelding is the fastest qualifier to the January 26, $211,090 final at Sunland Park

Fernando Solis Grajeda's HS Paul Walker on Friday posted the fastest qualifying time to the January 26, $211,090 Shue Fly Stakes (RG3) for New Mexico-bred 3-year-olds at Sunland Park.

Ridden by Alonso Rivera for trainer Alvaro Hinojos, HS Paul Walker won the second of five 400-yard trials by a neck from second-fastest qualifier Igotmybiggirljeanson in :19.470. The homebred gray son of Osbaldo was winning for the fourth time in 10 starts, all in New Mexico.

HS Paul Walker was making his first start since November 4, when he finished second in the 400-yard, $315,000 New Mexico Cup Futurity (RG2) at Zia Park. The gelding has earned $99,300.

Igotmybiggirljeanson was trained by Rodolfo Valles for owners Jerry and Sheree Cannon. A daughter of Big Daddy Cartel, the filly has won two of nine outs and has banked $54,303, and she was a finalist in the New Mexico Cup and New Mexican Spring (RG2) futurities.
