Ridden by Guadalupe Lucio Jr. and aided by a reported 20-mph tail wind, Eysa Jess Jumpn stopped the timer in :17.180 while posting a 111 speed index. Josue Huitron prepped the brown daughter of Heza Fast Dash.
“When the horse (Jess Run Corona) broke through the gates and had to be reloaded, she got a little anxious,” said Huitron. “Lupe said she was not paying attention when she broke, but after two to three jumps she really took off.”
Eysa Jess Jumpn was bred by D & S Racing LLC and was an $11,500 purchase at the 2017 Louisiana QHBA Yearling Sale. Campaigned exclusively in Louisiana, she has won six of nine starts, including last year's Lee Berwick Futurity (RG1) at Delta Downs and Louisiana Champions Day Juvenile Stakes (RG2) at Fair Grounds Racecourse, and the $15,000 winner's share of the purse from her third stakes victory pushed her earnings to $440,770.
Tdz Louisiana Toast finished second and was followed by Heza Made Man, Cajun Cos, Packin A Punch, Heza Magic Coronas, Jess Run Corona, His Louisiana Dream, Lrh Mojo Rising, and Tetris B.
Marcus Medallion lit up the toteboard with his upset victory in Saturday's $85,000 Dona Ana County Handicap (R) for New Mexico-bred aged runners.
Under jockey Adrian Ramos, Marcus Medallion covered 440 yards in :21.183, and his margin of victory was one length from odds-on favorite Major Bites. Jaime Aldavaz Jr. saddled the sorrel 6-year-old Jesse James Jr gelding for owner Karina Aldavaz.
Marcus Medallion was sent to post at odds of 35-1 and returned a $72.40 win mutuel. The gelding was bred by Carl Jason Bailey, and he was stretching out in distance off of his third-place finish in a 300-yard, $35,000 allowance dash at Zia Park on December 16.
Marcus Medallion has won four of 14 starts, and the $51,000 winner's share of the purse from his first stakes score boosted his bankroll to $133,468.
Mr Klee, Rime Chimes, Percyjones, Magnifico Dragon, Cartels Star Daddy, Altitude Project, and Hollywoodcrown completed the order of finish.
