Q-Racing Journal

Catch Billy The Kid was uncatchable in the $100,000 First Down Dash Stakes, the consolation race for the All American Derby at Ruidoso Downs on August 31.

Trainer Mike Joiner sent the horse out for a partnership that included Billy Smith, Pat Guillory and J Bar 7 Ranch LLC. Joiner yesterday won the $200,000 All American Gold Cup (G1) with DM Streakn Thru Fire.

Ridden by champion jockey Cody Jensen, who just minutes before accepted his Sam Thompson Memorial Award, Catch Billy The Kid broke cleanly and accelerated steadily throughout the 440 yards. He completed the distance, a length the best, in :21.820.

Favorite Her O Don Won was second, with Cruzin third. Quick Dynasty, Highest Fire, Fire Tested, Skuze Pleeze, Spirit Leader, Rock Princess and Viva Sin Tacha completed the order of finish.

Catch Billy The Kid paid $20 for a $2 wager. The race was his third win and first stakes win in nine career starts, and pushed his earnings to $51,914.

Catch Billy The Kid is a gelded son of the champion First Down Dash son FDD Dynasty, and becomes the stallion’s 28th stakes winner from 267 starters in four crops to race. FDD Dynasty has sired the earners of more than $6.9 million.

Bred by La Feliz Montana Ranch LLC, Catch Billy The Kid is out of Grade 1 winner Jess Significant, a daughter of leading sire Mr Jess Perry and champion Significant Speed. Jess Significant earned $419,589 in her racing career, and is also the dam of Grade 3-winner Significant Heart (by Corona Cartel, $151,517).
