PYCs Little Lady, the eighth-fastest qualifier and a 17-1 longshot, pulled off the upset on Friday afternoon with a head victory in the $154,925 Sunland Park Winter Futurity (G2) in New Mexico. Ridden by Manuel Gutierrez for trainer and breeder Jaime Dominguez and owner Heysol Howlet, the filly rallied late to get up in a time of :19.580 for 400 yards.

A Colorado-bred daughter of PYC Paint Your Wagon, PYCs Little Lady picked up her third career win and first stakes victory. The filly broke her maiden at The Downs at Albuquerque in August and then scored an allowance win there in October before making her stakes debut at Sunland Park. Her earnings now stand at $98,077 with a record of 7-3-1-1.

Carters Last Straw, a gelding by Carters Cartel also making his stakes debut for owners John and Kathy Lee, just missed the victory and finished a clear second. The Stel Corona colt Tropical Corona took third in front of betting favorite and fastest qualifier Eagle On The Fly, who was going for his sixth win of the season.
