Kris Locklear’s Marathon Stakes winner Worlds On High meets Walter Alford’s impressive allowance winner Downtown Forrest in the $35,000 Magnolia Stakes over 870 yards at Louisiana Downs on Saturday afternoon.

Worlds On High (Game Patriot-Sissyisonahigh by On A High) has been on a roll since winning an 870-yard optional-claiming race by 6 lengths back in October at Evangeline Downs. Including that victory, the veteran gelding has posted three wins and a second in his four latest outs for trainer Vann Haywood. Worlds On High  has capped this hot streak with a 3 1/2-length win in the $15,000 Marathon Stakes over the Louisiana Downs track. He went to the lead and then drew out to the handy win as the 7-10 favorite.

The 7-year-old gelding started his 51-race career as a $5,000 maiden claimer and has gone on to score 13 wins, 12 seconds and five thirds while earning $229,433.

Downtown Forrest (Beau Brummel SA-Cece Chicado Classic by Special Effort) stepped forward in an $18,000 allowance race, his most recent start, and makes his stakes debut in the Magnolia. He set the pace and then pulled out to a 2-length win in the allowance. The Carl Crawford-trained gelding had a win and a second against optional-claiming rivals before his allowance victory.

Douglas Traylor’s Rocky Mountain Fly (Panther Mountain-Dealafly by Strawfly Special) tries to rebound after two off-the-board performances as the favorite in each race. The Kenny Roberts Sr.-trained gelding earned that favoritism after winning three-straight races, including the $50,000 Live Oak Stakes and the $50,000 Faubourg St. John Stakes.

The winner of seven of 17 starts, Rocky Mountain Fly also won the 2012 Louisiana Champions Day Derby (RG3).
