Lock Dash Toll CAR Wins Brazilian Futurity

Sorocaba hosts rich ABQM Potro do Futuro on Saturday.

Brazil’s Jockey Club de Sorocaba on June 14 hosted a big day of races. Highlighting the card was the R$230,000 (approximately $103,000 U.S. dollars) GP ABQM Potro do Futuro.

The futurity was run at 440 yards, and Lock Dash Toll CAR took home the winner’s prize with a quarter-length victory and a time of :21.96.

Lock Dash Toll CAR was ridden by J. Carvalho for trainer L.S. Borges and breeder/owner Agropastoril Haras Carrera.

Claudio Machado Rocha’s Only Ease Bryan was second, followed by Klin, Streak Of Ease, Korega For Me, Max Miracle, Opositora Dash and Runaway Quick Moon.

Lock Dash Toll CAR earned R$112,500, about $50,400 U.S., for the win. The colt is sired by Lock To Load and out of the Fishers Dash mare Lady Fishers Jet.  His sire is a 2000 son of Corona Cartel who won the 2003 Los Alamitos Winter Derby (G1) and earned $197,171 in his career. Lock To Load sired the earners of more than $1 million before being exported to Brazil, where he is owned by RS Racing Stallions Rep. Com. at Sao Paulo.

Two additional stakes were held on the same card, one for colts/geldings and one for mares. Both races were at 330 yards and offered a R$100,000 purse (worth approximately $44,800 in U.S. dollars).

Haras Brasil’s First To Jess won the GP ABQM Rei de Velocidade for males with a half-length victory and a time of :16.54, good for a 99 speed index.

First To Jess was ridden by A. Andrade and trained by M. Praxedes. The 3-year-old colt is a Texas-bred who was bred by Grant Farms LLC, of Pineville, Louisiana. He is by First To Shine and out of the Mr Jess Perry mare Copauinos Jess.
His stablemate Ultimate Corona was second. Also a 3-year-old colt, this horse ridden by A. Silva was bred by Lucas Racing Inc. and is by Devons Signature and out of Corona Kool.

Uisque Verde was third, followed by Ninja Dash, Joke Appeals, Nadal Magic, Dealer A Bono AZ and Gana In Stone.

The division for females was immediately following, and Golden Stone brought home the win in the GP ABQM Rainha de Velocidade. Sent off as a 18-1 longshot, the 3-year-old filly defeated stablemate and reigning South American champion Italia Gold by three-quarters of a length and stopped the clock in :16.61.

Golden Stone was ridden by A. Cavalcanti for trainer M.C. Cruz and owner Haras Sao Matheus. The trainer and owner were also the connections of Italia Gold.

Number Of Glory was third, followed by Carmelita Cash ZO, Miss Patriot Dash, Miss Merry Toll, Olinda Chick SLM.
Golden Stone was bred by Claudio Machado Rocha and is by SC Chiseled In Stone and out of the Blazen Bryan mare Darlin Bryan PK.
