Too Flash For You Prevails in NM Breeders' Stakes

First Moonflash gelding picks up second stakes win in as many starts this year.

In his first start since taking the New Mexico HBA Stakes (RG2) in February at Sunland Park, Too Flash For You captured the $45,000 New Mexico Breeders’ Stakes (RG2) at SunRay Park on Sunday. Trained by Wes Giles and ridden by Larry Gamez, the 3-year-old son of First Moonflash popped out of the gate with a quick early lead and held on to win by a neck in a 400-yard time of :19.322. The brown gelding earned $27,000 for owners Jose Espinosa and Jim and Michelle Laird.

Too Flash For You, who was bred by Sarah Donaldson out of the Rare Form mare Rare Pie, competed in four graded stakes as a 2-year-old but ended his nine-race campaign with just a single victory in a trial for the Zia Futurity (RG1). Now in two starts as a 3-year-old, he has two stakes wins and earnings of $78,000. His career earnings now stand at $132,716.

Luis Villanueva’s Sassy Moonflash, a stakes-winning gelding by First Moonflash, finished a game second with Ross and David Hinkins’ Jess Sandy Jr, by Jesse James Jr, in third.
