Q-Racing Journal

Heza Dasha Fire scored a big payday on Sunday night at Los Alamitos with a half-length victory in the $1,031,100 Golden State Million Futurity (G1), and the win sets him up for a chance at an even bigger score. The Walk Thru Fire gelding’s latest victory, coupled with his win in the Ed Burke Million Futurity (G1) in June, gives him the chance to win the $1 million Los Alamitos Cash Bonanza if he can complete a sweep of the California track’s major futurities in the Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity (G1) in December.

In the Golden State, the Washington-bred broke well under jockey Cruz Mendez and prevailed by a half-length over Apollitcal Blood in a time of :19.688 for 400 yards. The victory was worth $415,422 to breeder/owner S-Quarter K LLC. Heza Dasha Fire is now undefeated in five career starts, all at Los Alamitos. He broke his maiden by nearly three lengths in April and then went on to win a trial and the final of the Ed Burke before doing the same in the Golden State. His earnings now stand at $820,352. Lindolfo Diaz trains the sorrel runner.

Rancho el Cabresto Inc.’s Apollitical Blood, who finished fourth in the All American Futurity (G1), pushed his earnings over the $400,000 mark with a second-place finish with Cesar DeAlba aboard for trainer Juan Aleman. Luv Supreme, a filly owned by Cobb, San Gregorio Racing Stable Inc. and World Champion Racing Stables LLC, took third with Joe Badilla Jr. in the irons for trainer Dean Frey.

The Golden State Futurity was contested as a non-wagering event.

In the $30,000 Golden State Juvenile, LEMA Racing Stables Apollitical Legacy prevailed by a head over Vivid, who was a neck better than Bigtime Carter. Ridden by Cesar DeAlba and trained by Juan Aleman, Apolitical Legacy clocked 400 yards in :20.116 and improved her record to 5-2-1-1 with earnings of $21,050. The daughter of Apollitical Jess was bred in California by Bruce and Jill Thompson.
