Three dozen New Mexico-bred 2-year-olds, including graded stakes winners Chickaloni, Im A Moon Quest and RG Miracle, have been entered in Monday’s 400-yard Shue Fly Stakes (RG2) trials at Sunland Park.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the $95,000-added final on January 17.

A sorrel daughter of Jess A Chicks trained by Lori Chavez for owners Ross Hinkins and David Hinkins of Orangevale, Utah, Chickaloni will be making her first start since November 1, when the filly scored a neck victory in the 400-yard, $281,000 New Mexico Cup Futurity (RG2) at Zia Park. Chickaloni drew post 3 and will be ridden by Jose Enrique Ortiz in the second of four trials.

Im A Moon Quest races for Santos Espinosa and Marc Jungers from the barn of Justin Joiner. A gelded son of champion First Moonflash, Im A Moon Quest has earned $166,017 from five outs this season, and his two wins include an upset victory at odds of 14-1 in the July 26, $380,000 Zia Futurity (RG1) at Ruidoso Downs. Cody Jensen will ride Im A Moon Quest from post 2 in the third heat.

RG Miracle is a homebred gray son of Hearts Miracle racing for Shirley Grisham of Albuquerque. Trained by Ken Grisham, the gelding has won his last three races, including the August 23, 350-yard New Mexico Breeders’ Futurity (RG3) at SunRay Park. RG Miracle drew post 7 and will be ridden by Ivan Carnero in the fourth trial.
