'Streaks' Meet in KOFX

DM Streakn Thru Fire, Streak Hitter meet at Sunland.

The classy Grade 1 winner Dm Streakn Thru Fire meets the sharp Streak Hitter over 350 yards in the $50,000 KOFX Handicap (G2) on Sunday afternoon at Sunland Park.

Richard Sturdevant, Terry Wootan and Joe David Yates’ DM Streakn Thru Fire (Walk Thru Fire-Sashay N Six by Sixarun) has a tendency to win big races at long odds.

DM Streakn Thru Fire won the 2013 Zia Park Championship (G1) at 27-1 odds for one of two wins from seven starts that year. He raced to a neck win over two-time champion Feature Mr Bojangles.

Last summer at Ruidoso Downs, DM Streakn Thru Fire scored another narrow upset win he won the All American Gold Cup (G1) by a neck over the classy Jesscuzican for his sole 2014 win.

The Justin Joiner-trained DM Streakn Thru Fire was a lackluster eighth in the $150,480 Zia Park Championship (G1) in his most recent start.

Olivas Racing’s Streak Hitter (Walk Thru Fire-Chickasis by Chicks Beduino) was on an unbeaten roll at Zia Park last fall when he won each of his three starts. The 5-year-old gelding won a couple allowance races and then stepped up in the $55,340 Lovington Stakes (G2).

In the 400-yard Lovington Stakes, Streak Hitter pulled away from the field to win by 1 1/4 lengths as the 5-2 favorite.

Terry Smith’s homebred Downwiththequickness (Be Real Quick-One Desperate Lady by Lanes Leinster) comes off a second-place run behind RCJ Major Storm in the $85,000 Jess Burner Handicap (RG1) against New Mexico-breds. RCJ Major Storm went on to win the $350,000 The Championship at Sunland Park (G1).

Downwiththequickness won the $76,224 New Mexico State Fair Breeders’ Derby during the New Mexico State Fair at The Downs at Albuquerque in September.
