Dashin Brown Streak Headlines Refrigerator
Top aged horse returns to the races.
September 30, 2015
Dashin Brown Streak, the top-rated aged horse in the AQHA Racing-Horseplayernow.com National Poll, returns on Saturday in the $75,000 Refrigerator Handicap (G1) at Lone Star Park.
The 5-year-old gelded son of Hotdoggin will make his first start since winning the Remington Park Championship (G1) on May 30. A victory in the Refrigerator would mark his third consecutive Grade 1 and put him in serious contention for world champion honors; he also won the Leo Stakes (G1) at Remington in March.
Dashin Brown Streak races for Melvin Hatley and the Estate of C.W. Navarre, and has failed to light the board only once in 18 career starts. He is trained by John Brasseaux and will be reunited with champion jockey G.R. Carter Jr. He is currently the No. 2 horse in the National Poll, behind only 3-year-old and All American Derby (G1) winner Apollitical Blood.
This race last year helped push JRC Callas First to a world champion title.
Facing Dashin Brown Streak is Dan Nicks’ recent Lone Star stakes winner Mr Jo Eagle, who steps up to Grade 1 company after winning the overnight Grand Prairie Stakes (R) on September 18. The homebred One Famous Eagle gelding has finished third or better in five of six starts this year, including a second-place run in the $38,750 TQHA Classic Stakes.
Also returning after a summer’s break is Rockin J Running Horses and Jack Manning’s Rockin Disco. The 5-year-old gelding this spring won three consecutive races at Remington Park, topped by the Bank of America Remington Championship Challenge (G2) before an 11th place finish in Dashin Brown Streak’s Remington Park Championship.
The Rock Solid Jess gelding returns after a summer’s freshening with Ricardo Aguirre aboard.
