Takiana Romanova B Goes for Hobbs America Double This Weekend

The daughter of FDD Dynasty drew the rail post for Sunday's Hobbs America Derby at Zia Park.

Zia Park in Hobbs, New Mexico, will present a stakes doubleheader on Sunday.

Takiana Romanova B, a daughter of champion FDD Dynasty racing for Jimmy Negrete and Dinah Negrete, drew the rail post for Sunday’s 440-yard, $80,000-added Hobbs America Derby (G3) at Zia Park.

Takiana Romanova B has earned $150,447 from 11 races, and her four wins include a three-quarter length victory in last year’s 400-yard, $281,000 Hobbs America Futurity (G2). Ivan Carnero will ride the filly for trainer Juan M. Gonzalez on Sunday.

Other contenders include Heysol Howlet’s Pycs Little Lady, a bay filly by Pyc Paint Your Wagon trained by Jaime Dominguez. Pycs Little Lady is coming off of a Ruidoso Downs summer campaign in which she scored a half-length win in the 440-yard, $100,000 First Down Dash Stakes on September 6.

Pycs Little Lady drew post 2 and will be ridden by Manuel Gutierrez.

The complete lineup, in post position order including jockey assignments-- Takiana Romanova B (Ivan Carnero), Pycs Little Lady (Manuel Gutierrez), Jess Alota Fly (Roberto Valero), Volten (Sergio Rodriguez), Jesse Jr First Down (Valentin Gutierrez), Kru 82 (Larry Gamez), Eyesa Rowdy Shazoom (Raul Herrera), Eyegazzo (Efrain Vigi), Apollitical Sign (Raul Hernandez), and El Damazo (Esgar Ramirez).

Also on Saturday, fastest qualifier Burns Folly is one of 10 2-year-olds entered back in the Grade 2, 400-yard Hobbs America Futurity.

Burns Folly is a sorrel Stel Corona gelding trained by Chris Zamora for owner Alberto Villanueva. The gelding brings in a three-race win streak that includes a half-length victory in the fifth of seven trials on September 26.

Burns Folly drew post 1 and will be ridden by Jaime Leos.

Queen Arabella, a stakes-winning filly by Heza Motor Scooter owned by Joyce Erickson of Albuquerque, drew post 5. Queen Arabella has won two of her five outs, including the 300-yard, $50,000 West Texas Juvenile Invitational Stakes at Sunland Park on April 11.

Benito Baca will ride Queen Arabella on Sunday.
