Prairie Meadows Ends Meet with Stakes-Filled Program

Fastest qualifier Undaunted heads $213,557 Valley Junction Futurity for 2-year-olds.

Prairie Meadows will run eight Quarter Horse stakes on Saturday.

An eight-race all-stakes program, headed by the 350-yard, $213,557 Valley Junction Futurity, will end Prairie Meadows’ Quarter Horse meet on Saturday.

First post is at 6:30 p.m. (CDT) and the track expects that TVG/HRTV will pick up some of the card.

Undaunted, a stakes-placed Corona Cartel colt trained by Brian Muse for owner Undaunted13, is the 5-2 morning-line favorite for the Valley Junction Futurity. The fastest qualifier, Undaunted is coming off of a 2 1/4-length victory in the second of four trials on September 26.

Undaunted drew post 7 and will be ridden by Raul Gutierrez.

Also on Saturday, a full field of 10 Iowa-bred 2-year-olds has been entered back in the 350-yard, $200,700 Jim Bader Futurity (R).

Fastest qualifier The Fiscal Cliff, a homebred son of Pyc Paint Your Wagon racing for Tom Lepic of Iowa City, drew post 10. Trained by Kasey Willis, the colt has won his last five outs, including the 350-yard, $181,000 Iowa Double Gold Futurity (R) at Prairie Meadows on August 29, and the 350-yard, $100,000 Heritage Place Juvenile Invitational Stakes (R) at Remington Park in May.

The Fiscal Cliff drew post 10 and will be ridden by Cesar Gomez.

CR Wagon Man, a bay daughter of Pyc Paint Your Wagon owned by Curt Tobin and Dick Tobin, is the 7-2 morning-line choice for Saturday’s 400-yard, $122,560 Polk County Derby (R) for Iowa-bred sophomores.

Trained by Jason Olmstead, CR Wagon Man set the fastest qualifying time with her three-quarter length win in the first of two trials on September 26. The filly drew post 5 and will be ridden by Cody Smith.

Michael Teel’s AJs High will attempt to rebound from his sixth-place finish in his trial in Saturday’s 400-yard, $106,577 Altoona Derby for 3-year-olds.

A homebred son of Apollitical Jess trained by Charley Hunt, AJs High has earned $154,009 from six outs this season, and his four wins include a one-length victory in the 400-yard, $306,000 Remington Park Derby (RG3) for Oklahoma-breds on April 18.

AJs High drew post 10 and will be ridden by Stormy Smith.
