A total of 194 Oklahoma-bred 2-year-olds has been entered in this weekend’s Remington Park Futurity (RG2) trials at Remington Park.
A dozen 330-yard trials will be contested Friday and Saturday. The five fastest qualifiers from each night’s heats will meet in the $270,000-added Remington Park Futurity final on April 23.
Of the 97 juveniles entered on Saturday, only two -- Rpainted Pistol and Darker Tint -- are previous race winners. A homebred son of Pyc Paint Your Wagon trained by Stacey Capps for Bob and Deanna Williams, Rpainted Pistol made his debut with a head victory in a 250-yard maiden special weight dash on March 17. The gelding will be ridden by Ricky Ramirez from the rail post in the second heat.
Darker Tint is a bay son of Pyc Paint Your Wagon campaigned by Palomino Trucking Inc. from the barn of trainer Ruben Soto. The colt was a prompt 17-10 favorite in a 250-yard, $20,600 maiden special weight race for Oklahoma-breds on March 11. Darker Tint drew post 7 and will be ridden by Jose Vega in the third trial.
Friday’s trials have also drawn 97 entries, including four recent 250-yard maiden winners -- Juan A. Medina’s Teller Baja, James Sills’ Eye De Man, and David K. Moore’s First Prize Rio and V Power. Teller Baja recorded the fastest winning time of the quartet, as the sorrel daughter of Teller Cartel broke her maiden by a half of a length in :13.052 on March 18.
Teller Baja drew post 8 and will be ridden by Agustin Silva in the first heat.
Post time each night will be 6 p.m. (CDT).
