Klassic Strawfly Risks Win Streak in Jess Burner
The 10-year-old gelding is the morning-line favorite at Sunland Park.

Yaneth Cabrera’s Klassic Strawfly, a 10-year-old son of Genuine Strawfly trained by Miguel Castillo, will put his five-race win streak on the line in Saturday’s 400-yard, $85,000 Jess Burner Memorial Handicap (RG1) for New Mexico-breds at Sunland Park.
The 3-1 morning-line favorite, Klassic Strawfly has earned $204,890 from seven outs this season, and his six wins include three stakes victories. The gelding will be shortening in distance off of his head victory as the 3-2 choice in the 440-yard, $170,000 Namehimastreaker New Mexico Cup Championship (RG1) at Zia Park on October 30.
Klassic Strawfly drew post 4 and will be ridden by Alejandro Medellin.
Other contenders include defending Jess Burner champion Osbaldo and Seeyalateralligator. Osbaldo is trained by Castillo for owner Hubaldo Solis of Peralta, New Mexico. A homebred 7-year-old stallion by Jesse James Jr, Osbaldo has banked $43,786 from six starts this year.
Bonifacio Quiroz will ride Osbaldo from the rail post.
Seeyalateralligator is coming off of a second-place finish to Klassic Strawfly in the New Mexico Cup Championship. Trained by Wes Giles for owners Ezra Lee and Jason Giles, the 4-year-old Winners Version gelding has earned $42,759 from four races this season.
Seeyalateralligator drew post 2 and will be ridden by Salvador Martinez.
