Mad About The Moon Draws Rail Post for KOFX Radio Stakes

Friday's 350-yard, $50,000 stakes is part of Sunland Park's first live racing program in more than a month.

Live racing returns to Sunland Park with a nine-race program on Friday. The featured American Quarter Horse race is the 350-yard, $50,000 KOFX Radio Stakes.

Mad About The Moon, a 4-year-old son of champion First Moonflash racing for David G. Valdez of Odessa, Texas, drew the rail post for Friday’s 350-yard, $50,000 KOFX Radio Stakes at Sunland Park.

The 5-2 morning-line favorite in a field of nine, Mad About The Moon is trained by Juan M. Gonzalez. The graded stakes winning and Grade 1-placed gelding is dropping in class and shortening in distance off of his ninth-place finish in the 400-yard, $350,000 Championship at Sunland Park (G1) on January 3.

Mad About The Moon brings earnings of $750,063 from 14 outs into Friday’s stakes. Adrian Ramos has been named to ride the gelding.

Joyce D. Erickson’s Queen Arabella will be making her first start against aged runners in the KOFX Radio Stakes. A homebred 3-year-old daughter of Heza Motor Scooter trained by Donna McArthur, the filly is coming off of a third-place finish, 1 1/2 lengths behind winner BV Midnite Express, in the January 3, $250,000 Sunland Park Juvenile Invitational Stakes.

Queen Arabella drew post 6 and will be ridden by Jose Enrique Ortiz.
